• Liquid Sky Slava Tsukerman, 1982 : Aliens mischen sich in die New-Wave-Szene im New York der 80er Jahre. A glitzy updating of Andy Warhol's Trash with aliens, this campy, stylish, but ultimately depressing film is one of the most keenly observed portraits of New York's early '80s downtown new wave scene. „Tellergroßes Ufo landet auf dem Balkon einer jungen Frau und verspeist die ihr aufgezwungenen Liebhaber. Am Ende entschwindet sie mit dem Ufo im All. Krude Mischung aus Science fiction-Parodie, Märchen und Beschreibung des New Yorker New-Wave-Milieus.“

• Born in Flames Lizzie Borden, 1983 : Nach der Revolution tritt in New York die Frauenarmee öffentlich in Erscheinung. Im Umfeld zweier kleiner feministischer Radiosender kämpfen sie mit ihren Verbündeten gegen Rassismus, patriarchalische Verhaltensweisen und für ihre sozialen Rechte. Sie besetzen eine Radiostation der Regierung und fordern ein Gesetz zur Bezahlung von Frauen für Hausarbeit. Im Film spielen einige zur Zeit der Entstehung aktive Feministinnen mit, darunter die spätere Regisseurin Kathryn Bigelow. Red Krayolas Titelsong Born in Flames wurde bereits 1981 als Single veröffentlicht.
• Pumzi is a Kenyan science-fiction short film written and directed by Wanuri Kahiu, 2009. It depicts a future state of civilisation (located on the African continent), it is produced by a South African studio. Pumzi can be said to function as a critique on ecotopic narratives. The film critiques some of the burgeoning anxieties surrounding inter-personal communication. The lack of dialogue throughout the film further reinforces the cool efficiency of the colony while portraying the potential for technological innovation to deteriorate genuine interpersonal relations.
• Gayniggers from Outer Space Morten Lindberg, 1992 : A group of intergalactic homosexual black men from the planet Anus discover the presence of female creatures on planet Earth. Using rayguns, they proceed to eliminate females one by one from Earth, eliciting gratitude from the previously oppressed male population
• Dandy Dust Ashley Hans Scheirl, 1998 : Dust, a cyborg of fluid gender, crash lands on the hermaphroditic planet 3075 and becomes a member of its electro-orgiastic structure. Strange creatures start to haunt -h-: supermother Cyniborg, obsessed with reproducing a corroded clan, father Sir Sidore, a repressed 18th century aristocrat, the mysterious Twins Mao& Lisa, who turn out to be scientists of parthenogenesis & a dusty mummy. In order to ward off the zombie-family, Dust is forced to re-member=go back in time - crossing organic cyberspaces - to collect the lost selves. But the desire to become one has dangers of megalomanic multitude!!!
• Flaming Ears Ursula Puerrer & A. Hans Scheirl & Dietmar Schipek, 1992 : A pop sci-fi lesbian fantasy feature set in the year 2700 in the fictive burned-out city of Asche. A story of love and revenge, and an anti-romantic plea for love in its many forms. An avowedly underground film which was shot on Super 8 and blown up to 16mm, FLAMING EARS is original for its playful disruption of narrative conventions (the story is a thread rather than a backbone in the film), its witty approach to film genre, and its visual splendor.
• Welcome II the Terrordome Ngozi Onwurah 1995 : The first feature ever directed by a black British woman is this ferocious, ambitious, dystopian nightmare influenced by African mythology, the films of Spike Lee, and the music of Public Enemy. A near-future inner-city ghetto implodes under the pressure of racial tensions, poverty, and police brutality, in "a world which doesn't breathe so much as pant"
• Teknolust Lynn Hershman Leeson, 2002: Die Wissenschaftlerin Rosetta Stone arbeitet an der künstlichen Herstellung der Körperorgane und experimentiert mit der eigenen DNS. Sie erzeugt durch das Klonen drei Kopien ihrer selbst: Ruby, Olive und Marinne. Diese leben in einem Cyber-Space.

• Space is the Place 1974, John Coney/Sun Ra : A response to the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, Sun Ra does not condemn the party by name, he ultimately finds limited value in terrestrial community programs, an allusion to the Panthers, and posits that only the band's use of technology and music will liberate the people by changing consciousness. • UPCOMING Ava DuVernay adaptiert Octavia Butlers Roman Dawn fürs Fernsehen. Die Serie folgt einer Frau, die 250 Jahre nach einem Atomkrieg mit Außerirdischen zusammenarbeitet um die Menschheit auferstehen zu lassen.
• Brave New Worlds: The Science Fiction Phenomenon Paul Oremland, 1993: Dokumentation über Science Fiction Literatur. Enthält Gespräche mit Octavia Butler, William Gibson, Arthur C. Clark, Ray Bradbury und anderen.
• Ghost in the Shell Mamoru Oshii, 1995: Im Jahr 2029 jagt die Agentin einer Anti-Terror-Einheit einen Terroristen, der sich in die technisch erweiterten Körper der Menschen hacken kann. Sie selbst verfällt darüber in eine Identitätskrise, weil sie fast ausschließlich aus technischen Erweiterungen besteht.
• Tetsuo: The Iron Man Shin’ya Tsukamoto, 1989: Ein Büroangestellter entdeckt morgens beim Rasieren ein Stück Metall in seiner Wange. Anschließend geht er zur Arbeit, wird jedoch auf dem Weg dorthin von einer Frau angegriffen, deren Hand aus Metall und Schläuchen besteht. Im Laufe der nächsten Stunden mutiert der Angestellte immer mehr zu einem Maschinenwesen. In einer grotesken Traumszene wächst ihm ein riesiger, sich drehender Metallpenis.
• Abluka Emin Alper, 2015: Amid the intense political violence of Istanbul, Kadir is released on parole two years early on the condition that he become an informant for the police gathering terrorist informations, activities, and searching for bombs on trash cans.
• The Field of Vision Siri Rodnes, 2011: Adapted from the short story by Ursula K. Le Guin, this short film is about mankind's pursuit of truth and the consequence of finding the answer. In an unknown future, a group of astronauts unearth evidence of an ancient alien civilization on Mars.
• The Lathe of Heaven David Loxton, 1980: Film adaption of Le Guin's novel of the same name. George Orr, a draftsman, has long been abusing drugs to prevent himself from having "effective" dreams, which change reality. After having one of these dreams, the new reality is the only reality for everyone else, but George retains memory of the previous reality. Under threat of being placed in an asylum, Orr is forced to undergo "voluntary" psychiatric care for his drug abuse.
• The Starlost 1973: Kanadische Fernsehserie nach Le Guin. A group of humans must explore a vast starship in order to find the controls to save it from destruction.
• Crumbs Miguel Llanso, 2015 : Crumbs is set against the background of spectacular post-apocalyptic Ethiopian landscapes. Gagano, a scrap collector, alternately gripped by daydreams and constant fears, has had enough of collecting the priceless crumbs of decayed civilization, including the most valuable: merchandise from Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. When a spaceship that has been hovering high in the sky for years starts showing signs of activity, Gagano has to overcome his fears- as well as a witch, Santa Claus and second-generation Nazis- to discover things aren't quite the way he thought.
