The aim of SURVIVAL KIT is to develop a shared theoretical understanding alongside sustainable infrastructures through concrete artistic exchange, research, and practice, positing new possibilities for a common future. (Article in german) EYEBALLING D14 Das Magazin South as a State of Mind wurde 2012 von Marina Fokidis in Athen gegründet. Ab 2015 wird es temporär zum Magazin der documenta 14. Das South der documenta 14 ist ein Ort der Recherche, der Kritik, der Kunst und Literatur, der parallel zur Vorbereitung der Ausstellung entsteht und dabei helfen soll, Anliegen und Ziele zu definieren und zu formulieren. Das Schreiben und Publizieren, in all seinen Formen, wird ein integraler Bestandteil der documenta 14 sein, und dieses Magazin ein Vorbote dieses Prozesses. Wie dieser Aufbruch vonstattengehen soll, lässt sich nach der ersten Ausgabe der neuen Documenta-Zeitung noch nicht so ganz genau sagen. Thalia Raftopoulou (Born in 1980 in Athens, lives in Athens) has studied painting and interdisciplinary works of art and installations in the Athens School of Fine Arts (2006), and Public Art and New Artistic Strategies in the Bauhaus University-Weimar in Germany (MFA, 2010). She has worked in various contexts between different genres and disciplines experimenting with a multitude of media. Panayotis Panopoulos was born in Athens in 1967. He is teaching at the University of the Aegean. It records moments in real-time and produces temporary audiovisual environments. Uses, acoustic, electric and digital musical instruments, typewriters, technology garbage and other objects, frequencies, images, recorded files / soundscapes with which they manufacture small public fragmentary narratives. drog_A_tek evolve their performances beyond all rules of use of materials. Emit and receive known / unknown narrations and ephemeral desires .They print music, posters, stickers, write on walls and on the internet. The Erasers is an artist group based in Athens and Berlin, founded in 2006 with the aim to expand the boundaries of theater through audiovisual hybrid performances.Their performances include stage performance, cinema in real time, text, video, audio and web based projects in order to narrate stories for the modern man of the 21st century. The combination of such different elements is a challenge of researching a new audio-visual language. Rentis While traces of the written text and image date back thousands of years in human history, traces of recorded sound are very recent and mostly concentrated in the last two centuries. In this lecture we will attempt a flashback to the means of sound recording and playback along with their image. From the music box to digital recording, the sound is recorded by different methods and in different materials depending on the technological and economic developments of the time. What is their current form? What is the social and economic dimension of the recordings? What is their relationship with art? Finally, through concrete examples we will elicit responses and concerns regarding the role of recordings both as autonomous works of art and in combination with the visual and performing arts. In the first part of the presentation we discuss listening as an interface between people and the environment (natural, urban, technological, historical). Such contact is a dynamic one, as it is constantly differentiated in time activating cognitive and sensory functions of the listener in relation to the evolving socio-cultural processes. As listening practices are intertwined with the practices of sound production, in the second part of the presentation we will focus on the dramaturgical use and functions of sound on Sound Art and on various fields of sound design. In sonic strorytelling, sound is not only a distinctive mode of expression but it is also a character that induces action. Nikos Bubaris is Assistant Professor at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, University of the Aegean. His scientific and research interests lie in the field of cultural theory and media theory with emphasis on sound theory and sound design as well as in multimedia and user interface design. We will sketch a distinction between sound and music within contemporary artistic practice, through the anthropological approaches of sound and the predominant aesthetic theories, investigating the artistic intention together with modes of public perception.
